About Bandung Africa

Bandung Africa is an international non-governmental organisation operating from the continent with offices in Kenya and Nigeria. We aim to foster Pan-African solutions to global issues by connecting Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, enabling the exchange of talent, research and expertise between the two communities.

With a long history of advocating for human rights, good governance, climate change and economic empowerment for people of African descent globally. Bandung Africa hosts conferences, webinars, and campaigns to engage with key stakeholders and create a policy environment that supports the development of Africans. All Africans working together in order to contribute toward the achievement of Agenda 2063 of the African Union.

Who We Are

Members of Bandung Africa have a long history of fighting for justice and human rights around the world with the intention to progress the social cohesion and unity of Africa by helping to create a unified constructive approach to issues of security, human rights and the rule of law, empowering and uplifting all in society, building sustainable wealth through education, entrepreneurship and increased social mobility.

With the intention to promote the development of Pan African solutions to address regional and global challenges. All Africans working together in order to contribute toward the achievement of Agenda 2063 of the African Union.

A Fund Dedicated to the Wealth, Health, and Connectedness of Black people

The Imperative fund was conceived during the 2019-2020 Association of Black Foundation Executives Connecting Leaders Fellowship. Fellows Alexandra Bastien and Ade Oguntoye recognized the historical and current disparities in funding of Black leadership and specific programs to adequately address Black concerns. The Imperative was launched in October 2020 of 2020 with an advisory board that includes Angela Glover Blackwell (Founder in Residence, PolicyLink), Baba Arnold Perkins (Trustee, California Wellness Foundation), Ken Jones (CFO/Vice President, MacArthur Foundation) and Susan Taylor Batten (President, Association of Black Foundation Executives)

Mission

We are building a philanthropic institution to promote the wealth and health of Black people. We have started the establishment of a permanently endowed fund to make strategic investments that improve wealth, health and increase social, economic and cultural ties among Black people throughout the Diaspora.

About the Bandung Africa Conferences

“The Bandung Conference” was the name given to the first international African & Asian conference first held in Bandung, Indonesia in 1955. Other conferences concerning the anticolonial struggle across Africa and Asia were held in London in 1900 and in Manchester in 1945. The purpose would be to demonstrate a historical continuity to the ideals and aspirations of those conferences.

“I have seen more and more how the climate crisis is affecting the African continent. This is ironic given that Africa is the lowest emitter of carbon dioxide emissions of all continents, except for the Antarctic. Many Africans are losing their lives, while countless others are losing their livelihoods”

Vanessa Nakate, Uganda

The intention of the conference is to support the initiatives of civil society in the region by adding the voice of various human rights and climate change activists, and genuine conservationists on the continent, and in the African diaspora to support the work of those on the Continent. The Conference is intended as the mechanism by which a strategic bridge can be used to establish and facilitate the exchange of talent, academic material and research, and expertise, matching the needs of the continent with the resources available within the diaspora communities.

Together, we need to ensure that the $100 billion per year identified at COP28, as necessary to combat climate change in the developing world is realized as a priority and does not remain an empty promise. In addition, a significant proportion of the $3.43 billion of remittances sent by the Kenya diaspora and East African communities worldwide, could be applied to combat climate change, help conserve our natural resources, and wildlife in sustainable development projects to help build viable local communities.

Conference Goals:

  • To promote the development of Pan African Climate Change and Conservation solutions to address regional and global challenges linking Africans in the diaspora and on the continent, working together in order to contribute toward the achievement of Agenda 2063 of the African Union and the COP29 goals.
  • To identify leadership skills and civil society partnerships that can deliver identifiable benefits to diverse communities to combat climate change and build sustainable conservation.
  • To progress the social cohesion and unity of Africa by helping to create a unified and constructive approach to issues of climate change, and conservation of our natural resources and wildlife so that it is enjoyed and accessed by all citizens of Kenya and East Africa.

Our Sponsors & Partners

We wouldn't be able to host our conference without help from these amazing companies. A huge thanks to all our sponsors and partners!

Who will attend?

The conference is relevant to:

  • Government agencies concerned with land injustices, environmental and climate change, and natural resource issues
  • Environmental and land injustices activists and lawyers,
  • Organizations seeking to bring awareness to climate change, food, tourism, agricultural, and land issues and sustainable practices in Africa.
  • The youth
  • Virtual Attendance: -The conference will be promoted through extensive media interviews, social media posts and streamed live on the conference website and YouTube
  •

Our Initiatives

All fundraising proceeds from this conference will go towards supporting these two projects.

Our CSR Projects: The Karen C Primary School

  • The Karen C School was once a blossoming school with efficient facilities and learning programs. Over the decades since it became fully government-funded, the institution has struggled to maintain it’s upkeep, losing its educational reputation in the process.
  • The school also hosts residents of orphanages and suburban underprivileged children whose vulnerability in society makes the school’s limited learning capability a major hindrance for these children’s future opportunities and therefore identified as a priority for intervention.

Our CSR Projects: Justice Defenders Kenya

  • Founded in 2007 as African Prisons Project, Justice Defenders is a registered UK charity and U.S non-profit with nearly 350 people working across four countries.
  • We work with Justice Defenders to provide laptops and printers to prisons across the country in order to aid in access to justice for prisoners.

Exhibition Rates

The Exhibition at the Global African Diaspora Forum 2024 is a crucial element aligned with the Conference’s strategic objectives. It serves as a lively space where participants can interact with a variety of exhibitors and vendors presenting products, services, and ideas across different sectors.
