Bandung Africa Announces the Appointment of One New Co. Chair.

The Board of Governors of Bandung Africa extends its Pan African reach as it appoints Mrs Yetunde Asika, a uk trained lawyer based in Nigeria as its new Co. Chair.

On the 20th May, 2022 in Nairobi, Bandung Africa announced the appointment of one Chairperson to join the Co. Chairs. This brings the number of Co. Chairs to 3.

Mrs. Asika’s appointment comes in recognition of her work, career and focus on our core issues, and we have the intention of broadening our African and international base for the movement.

Mrs. Yetunde Asika is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, an International Human Rights Lawyer, an Associate Partner with the Law firm Rose Chambers and she has been at the forefront of civil society work globally for years. She is a leader in the efforts to promote democratic practice, economic advancement, equality, justice, and human rights.

Her current advocacy efforts are centred around governance in Nigeria where she sits on several boards including “Impact Lagos” and is also trustee for several NGOs. She is a “Justice for George Flyod” campaign Amb, Nigerian head of the civil society Coalition Against Racism and Conflict, she is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Section on Public Interest and Development Law, the Society of Black Lawyers UK, a former International Criminal Tribunal Legal Practitioner for the United Nations and a former U40Y Advisory Panel to the UK Home Secretary providing strategic recommendations to Members of Parliament on Government and Law.

Yetunde has spent a good portion of her life conducting research and advocacy to promote good governance, race and gender equality. She has advocated for changes in racially “biassed laws at the House of Commons, to the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU). To this end, she founded and is convener of the #AmendTheLaw movement.

Mrs. Asika is a social activist for justice and equality interested in Constitutional Law, Human and People’s Rights, Freedom and Responsibilities and Law and Governance. She is desirous to influence social, economic and political change and she has spent more than two decades advocating for women and children.

 

Background information for Mrs. Asika

Yetunde earned a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL. B) and a double Master of Laws (LL.M) in Corporate Commercial Law and Intellectual Property Law from Holborn College of Law, UK. She received professional certificates, including the LPC for Solicitors of the Law Society of England and Wales from the Inns of Court School of Law (ICSL) UK, and The Nigerian Bar, from Lagos Nigeria. Yetunde has been an “Outstanding individual of African descent anywhere in the world” nominee to MIPAD and she now resides as a trusted counsellor on the MIPAD Law & Justice selection Committee.

Aims and Objectives

  • To promote the development of Pan African Climate Change and Conservation solutions to address regional and global challenges linking Africans in the diaspora and on the continent, working together in order to contribute toward the achievement of Agenda 2063 of the African Union and the COP26 goals.
  • To identify leadership skills and civil society partnerships that can deliver identifiable benefits to diverse communities to combat climate change and build sustainable conservation;
  • To progress the social cohesion and unity of Africa by helping to create a unified constructive approach to issues of security, human rights and the rule of law, empowering and uplifting all in society, building sustainable wealth through education, entrepreneurship and increased social mobility.
  • To progress the social cohesion and unity of Africa by helping to create a unified and constructive approach to issues of climate change, and conservation of our natural resources and wildlife so that it is enjoyed and accessed by all citizens of Kenya and East Africa.
